LA Screenings 2011: ABC announces pick-ups
ABC has picked up new dramas including a reboot of Charlie's Angels, glossy 60s airline drama Pan Am and Good Christian Belles (previously Good Christian Bitches), which will be exec-produced by Darren Star (Sex and the City). Other new scripted series include Stillking Films' Missing, with Ashley Judd starring as a mom tracing her son when he goes missing abroad. Once Upon a Time, from the producers of Lost, is an ABC Studios-produced fairy-tale meets modern life fantasy drama about a mom reunited with her estranged son. ABC Studios also makes Good Christian Belles.
Canada's Global on board TV adaptation of The Firm
Canadian broadcast network Global will air the TV adaptation of John Grisham novel The Firm, which was picked up by NBC this week. The Shaw-owned Canadian net will air the 22x60mins series this autumn and the debut will coincide with its bow on US network NBC. It was the first 2011-2012 season programming announcement from Global.
Nordic production group Northern Alliance buys Nice Entertainment
Northern Alliance has acquired Stockholm-based drama producer Nice Entertainment. Nice will become the Nordic production group's hub for scripted programming and aims to build a library of TV rights for Nordic and international markets.
